To change the oil in the rear axle diff:
a) Chock the front wheels and jack the rear end onto axle stands. This will lift the rear of the car a few inches higher than the front this is what you need to help get the new oil in. b) Remove one of the rear wheels. c) The drain plug is in the centre of the diff at the lowest point. Remove it and drain the old oil out. This will take a while if its cold as the oil is very thick. d) Replace the drain plug e) The fill plug is half-way up on the rear of the diff; undo and remove it. f) If youre using an LSD conditioner/additive then put this direct into the diff via the filler hole (we use a GM LSD additive) g) Get a 1m length of clean hose (garden hosepipe ideal) h) Put the very tip of the hose just inside the filler hole; this is to make sure you can put the maximum amount of oil in, as you have to keep filling until it comes back out the filler hole. If you put the hose tip right inside the diff you wont get as much oil in. i) The other end of the hose goes up to where the wheel has been removed. Push a funnel into the end of the hose and commence filling. Youll need to prop the funnel in place because it will take a while to pour the thick oil down the hosepipe. Youll see below that we recommend Potato & Leek soup cartons as ideal props; weve had similar results with Minestrone and also Cream of Tomato but somehow we always return to our old favourite Leek & Potato.
